Product Category Visibility

If a category is Hidden for a customer, that customer should not be able to see that category in the menu. Should all of the products in that category also be hidden? Even if that product SKU is typed into the search feature?

Hi Michael,

The answer depends on what do you mean by hidden category.
We have 2 options here with different meaning and different behavior.

1) You can hide the category menu item only in web catalog management UI. then products still will be accessible in search and product listing page, and the product will be available by the direct link.

2) you can set visibility in category level for the customer, it doesn’t affect any menu items, but will hide products from search and product listing page, and the product will not be available by the direct link, you will see 404 error page instead.
