Hi,
I understand web/bundles folder gets copied from src when there is new installation.
May I ask what’s the exact mechanism behind this? Where is the code that copies to web/bundles folder? I wanted to add some static files like images etc. I couldn’t find the documentation for it.

Hello.
It copies during oro:assets:install command that extends symfony’s assets:install command.
See https://github.com/symfony/symfony/blob/master/src/Symfony/Bundle/FrameworkBundle/Command/AssetsInstallCommand.php
If you need to add some images, you have to put them into ..Resources/public/img/ folder of your bundle, and then run oro:assets:install.
